Hey all! I’m coming off a lovely five-day staycation here in D.C. Chris is heading back to Orlando, so I get to update y’all on the last week and change:
1. Everglades Half Registration
I’m in for the 2017 edition of the Everglades Half! This year, they’re including a 5K at Biscayne Bay on Friday, Dec. 1st, and the half will take place the next day (called the Gator Double).
It was lovely scrolling through Facebook and finding myself as the poster child for their registration reminder!
2. Farewell to Wishes
Walt Disney World had its final display of long-running fireworks show, Wishes, on May 11th after 13 1/2 years-ish of running. I managed to catch a few performances of the iconic display of artistry over the years, but I am also excited to see how Happily Ever After will go over with fans!
3. D.C. Duckie Season
Baby ducks everywhere! *squeeeeee*
4. National Police Week
The primary reason Chris came to visit was to partake in National Police Week here in D.C. We observed the Police Unity Tour finishing their final distances (cyclists who are active LEOs or survivors partake in a 3 to 4-day bike ride from the surrounding states, consisting of around 250 miles. The home stretch is through the Law Enforcement Memorial). He ran the NPW 5K on Saturday (and got a PR!) and cycled 20 miles through the city limits on Sunday. We also checked out Tent City (NPW version of a race expo!), and attended the Candelight Vigil on Friday evening.
If you want your daily dose of feels, head to the Law Enforcement Memorial. You’ll see makeshift memorials, wreaths, notes, and roses set up along the perimeter. It is so moving to see the Thin Blue Line community come together in remembrance.
5. See running treats, buy running treats!
We had to head to Pacers Running in Clarendon, VA for NPW 5K packet pickup. I took a moment to stock up on some of my favorites!
6. The Final Countdown
Tomorrow begins my final week of work in the heart of D.C. While I will be leaving behind some fantastic coworkers, I will finally be breaking free of what has been holding me back and making me so miserable for the past few months. I am thrilled to be back on the journey of adventure again (though the whole financial thing, as it was in the beginning, still terrifies the crap out of me). Spoiler alert: I will be focusing my job search/next adventure in the Florida area/land of sunshine and warm weather!
Have a wonderful week! xoxoxo ❤
