Red, White, and Blue 🇺🇸❤️💙

Happy Independence Day! Today I’m sharing one of my new favorite outfits which incorporates a couple of classic summer pieces that will keep you cool and comfy during those warm summer months. Down here in Florida, there’s no shortage of heat!

(Yes, I know the photography isn’t perfect. But hey…being perfect is boring and yet I’m still getting the point across. 😊

P.S. This is not a sponsored post. Just providing honest feedback.)

I picked up this Ralph Lauren polo shirt (100% cotton) when I was in Washington D.C. at a T.J Maxx. The blue is vibrant and versatile; I’ve paired this with dress pants, jeans, shorts…and it looks fantastic in and out of an office. Also, having multiple buttons gives me the option of being more or less conservative depending on the setting. (I am wearing a Medium. If you have broad shoulders, size up.)

I was in the market for new khaki shorts, and this pair of Vineyard Vines shorts is one of the coziest pairs I own. The 3 1/2″ inseam gives me the right amount of coverage so I don’t get dreaded thigh chafing. What impressed me the most was how well they fit in the waist. They don’t cut into you giving that “muffin top” feel, and there is a bit of stretch.

Now, I hate shorts shopping. I feel like nothing ever fits correctly and I leave perturbed. I went to try this particular article on, taking both a 4 and a 6. (I hover around 28 or 29 inches in the waist, but every store everywhere has their own definition of what sizing means to them.) I found that I was swimming in the 6, and the 4 was a drastically better fit.

For makeup, I went with this red lipstick (applied lightly…I prefer a gloss), and a light coating of this mascara by Guerlain.

What you don’t see in this shot are my shoes! I found the cutest pair of red gingham sandals at Abercrombie and Fitch a couple weeks ago. I very much prefer shoes that encase my feet and have ankle support, as I tend to fall out of shoes quite easily (especially heels). These are comfortable enough so I can go short distances and not tear holes in my feet. (No traipsing around a theme park in these babies!)

Have a safe and happy holiday! 🇺🇸💙❤️🦅

Bringing Home the Burberry

Note from Christina: This is not a partnership, and I’m not being paid. All opinions are my own.

I stumbled across the Burberry Eau de Parfum at a Nordstrom Rack when I was window shopping in DC back in July. I fell in love with the warm notes of the fragrance and dreamed of one day owning a bottle of it.

I finally got my chance a couple weeks ago while mozying around a Nordstrom Rack here in Orlando. There was one box left, and I jumped on the opportunity to bring home the Burberry! Luxury items rarely find their way into my hands, so I felt this was a special treat to start 2018 with.

This fragrance is warm and musky with hints of sandalwood, amber, and cedarwood, topped with fruity notes of peach and apricot. It’s not overpowering and rather cozy, which makes it a great accent for a romantic night out!

Pictured above is the 30mL/1oz. bottle, and it retails for $30.

White House Black Market 👗👠

I don’t consider myself a fashionista by any means. I prefer plain, solid colors and classic staples in my wardrobe. Simplicity and comfort are two keys…hence why I’m often found sporting athletic wear and shirts from all my races.

One of my favorite past times, especially when I was in graduate school at Edinboro, was driving to the mall (Millcreek Mall in Erie, PA), grabbing a coffee, and window shopping. It was a wonderful distraction from the stress of academia, and more often than not, didn’t buy anything. That didn’t stop me from smelling all the candles at Yankee Candle, though!

Chris was playing tour guide for me the other day as he was showing me around the malls around Orlando. We headed to the Mall at Millenia, which is a bit more upscale than what I’m used to. It includes a lot of the stores that I fawn over in preppy magazines, like Brooks Brothers and Vineyard Vines, so it’s definitely a win in my book! (I have an obsession over the preppy lifestyle, but that’s a post for a different day.)

There is a southern-based store called White House Black Market, and we stopped in there for a quick looksee. I am always on the hunt for those classic wardrobe staples, and I spotted this LBD almost instantly. Chris insisted that I try it on (he’s a pro photographer and always looking for cute things for me to try!), so I did.

Result: A very Audrey Hepburn-ish look…

I slipped it on and fell completely in love with the cut. It fit like a dream, and is definitely on my #goals list when I finally land a job!

Chris spotted this necklace and had me pair it. I hate gold jewelry, but I have to admit, this combination looked really sharp.

Specs: I’m 5’5″ and roughly 140 lbs with broad shoulders. I’m wearing a size four. No complaints 🙂

If you’re searching for a LBD to add to your wardrobe, I would highly recommend this one!

P.S. It has pockets!!

Dapper Day 2017

I took off for Florida on Saturday morning and came back to DC Sunday night. Super quick trip, but I had a blast!

I run on Dunkin and Disney.

Once I got to MCO, I got dressed in my Dapper Day outfit and hailed a cab to Magic Kingdom. (For future travelers, it’s gonna cost you around $80 or so for this.)

When I arrived at the TTC, it was a breeze getting through security, which makes more sense being in its new location than right before the main MK gates. The weather was all sunshine and blue skies, and about 90 degrees. I was SO pumped for warmth! ☀️

I had to wait a couple of hours until Chris got off of work, so I meandered about and did the picture thing:

I read up on Dapper Day, which is a huge cult following over in Disneyland. I noticed many cute outfits (So. Many. Polka dots!) and I felt like I came right out of the TARDIS and landed smack in the 1950’s.

I tried to be as inconspicuous as possible when taking pictures of people and groups:

Now, what did I wear?

Dress: New York and Co.

Purse: Kate Spade

Shoes: Target

While I didn’t have anything authentic from the 1950’s, I decided to go with something relatively cool and flowy to stay comfy in the heat. Pairing yellow and red gave the ensemble a Belle-vibe. The shoes, however, tore my feet apart after two hours and had to switch back over to my running shoes after two hours.

Pearl necklace: Ralph Lauren

Lip gloss: Cover Girl

Pearls go with everything, and a strong red lip with neutral eyes paired well with the outfit and the heat. Those that I observed having more authentic ensembles went all out with hair, makeup, accessories (lots of ☂️ and 👒!), gentlemen in full suits…props to them for bearing the heat with all of that on.

Chris arrived around 4-ish and we took off to Pecos Bill’s to meet his friends Erin and Megan! And, of course, all the photo ops:

And onto more adventures…

We went on Space Mountain and Buzz Lightyear, and Megan and Erin departed soon after. Chris and I hopped on Carousel of Progress (one of my favorites!) and grabbed Mickey pretzels after.

We caught Wishes at the end, and to be honest, it’s a pretty show, but doesn’t hit me in the feels like it does for others. I am curious to see what the new MK show will be! 🎆🎇

Surprise trips are truly the best. I had a fantastic time with Chris and friends. I am pumped to return for my 30th birthday in June! 💖
